Volumify is a very handy utility to automatically adjust your Mac's volume according to your current location and to disable the startup sound. All you need to do is configure your locations in the app's preferences. Volumify automatically detects your locations by available WiFi networks and adjusts your Mac's volume accordingly.
Using Volumify, e.g. students can configure the University campus as a location and turn off the volume completely in order to silently work on their Mac during lectures. Volumify lets you even customise the radius of the location to account for lectures being held in different buildings on the campus.
